1. Quantity
It’s the age-old question… do you focus on quality or quantity?
If you’re starting out, the answer is unequivocally… QUANTITY.
I’ve been living on a farm for the last thirty days. Before making the trip, I decided to create 30 Reels about living on the farm.
There was no exterior motive; it was purely an experiment. “What would happen if I created 30 days worth of Reels?”
Here’s what happened…
- The process got faster.
- The videos got better.
- The views went up.
I didn’t overthink the videos. I didn’t try to “create” something. I purely just documented 30 days of living on the farm.
The lesson?
Stage one of content creation is purely about getting in the reps. Pick ONE platform and ONE form of content, and keep showing up.
It’s impossible to improve upon something that you haven’t spent a good amount of time doing.
2. Quality
Quantity gets the snowball rolling, but quality is what turns it into a snowman.
With every post, I tried to get 1% better.
- Better ideas.
- Better hooks.
- Better transitions.
My first few posts were getting ~1,000-2,000 views. My latest posts have been getting ~13,000 - 14,000 views.
I don’t think that was by accident.
The cool thing about content creation is there is always something to improve. Hell, look at MrBeast (the biggest YouTuber on the planet). He’s still figuring it out.
The lesson?
Stage two of content creation is where you start looking at quality.
- What did well?
- What didn’t do well?
- What do people engage with?
- What do people share?
Turn quantity into quality by learning from your mistakes. Look for ways to improve with every post.
3. Amplification
Once you’re consistently creating content and know what quality content looks like… it’s time to redistribute.
With every Instagram Reel I posted, I also posted the same content on Facebook.
It didn’t get much engagement, but that’s not the point of stage three. The only point of this stage is to slightly amplify the content you’ve already created.
The key is not to worry about how well it performs. Every social media platform has its own social norms, and what does well on one platform doesn’t always do well on another… and that’s okay.
Also, keep in mind that you can always change the medium.
- A newsletter can turn into a podcast episode.
- A blog can turn into a YouTube video.
- Video can turn into text.
- Text can turn into video.
Once you’ve created a quality piece of content… why reinvent the wheel? Just amplify the message.
Take home point…
- Stage 1 - Focus on QUANTITY of content.
- Stage 2 - Focus on QUALITY of content.
- Stage 3 - Amplify your content.
