If you don’t know your positioning, you’re wasting your time with marketing.
How do you figure out your positioning?

Stop trying to serve everyone.
It’s the reason you’re struggling with leads.
The biggest mistake I see 99.9% of my clients make is they try to be everything for everyone.
They are chronic people pleasers and have difficulty saying “No!” which leaves them overworked, underappreciated, and underpaid.
The best way to stand out is to know your positioning in the market.
Imagine this: You’re looking for a chiropractor in your area, but you need someone who can really whale on your spine to get that loud crack you know and love.
You have “Gentle Jim” up the road in one direction and “Aggressive Amy” up the road in the other direction… who will you go to?
Obviously, the ladder.
That is your positioning. You can offer the same service as everyone else, but who you serve and how you serve them is your position in the market.
Go small to have big results.
Nobody cares about your services.
Tell them a story.
I recently interviewed two very skilled content creators. They have a collective 500k+ followers between them.
I asked them what the key to their growth has been… storytelling.
You can have the same service as everyone else, but if you can tell a better story, you will win.
Your story is what differentiates you. It’s what will help you find your position in the market.
Your story won’t resonate with everyone, but it WILL resonate with someone. That’s the person you’re looking to serve.
Telling your story is the best way to find your place in the market.
Authenticity is bogus.
I don’t want you to be authentic.
I want you to keep your promise.
This idea comes from Seth Godin. If I go to the dentist and have a toothache, I don’t care that you’re having a bad day and fearful of the eclipse. I want you to get rid of my tooth pain.
Yet, authenticity would tell you to “be yourself” and to “share how you authentically feel.”
Yes, this is true with your friends and family. But not your business. A good business makes a promise, and it keeps it. That’s how a business builds trust and loyalty with its customers.
I host a Meetup community on the first Thursday of every month. If I stopped showing up because I didn’t feel like it that day, the community would cease to exist.
Make your promise to the market and keep it.
Take home point…
- Your differentiator is your strength.
- Share more stories.
- Keep your promises.
