Most people are terrified to work for free.
“They won’t value me!”
“My time is so important!”
“How am I supposed to pay my bills?!”
Hard truth… if you were as good as you say you were… you wouldn’t have trouble getting leads.
People who are MASTERS of their craft don’t complain about marketing… their customers do all the marketing they need.
So… until that’s you… yes, working for free can be an INCREDIBLE marketing strategy. But here’s the kicker… feedback and testimonials are often WAY more valuable than getting paid.
So here’s what you do.
Offer your services for “free” in return for a testimonial and a referral. Assuming you do an amazing job (which you will), one customer can quickly turn into two. And then that two… turns into four… and so on.
Social proof is the STRONGEST form of marketing there is… you just have to get the flywheel going.
2. The Gift of Effort
Most people vastly underestimate the volume required to make a dent in their marketing efforts.
They think hosting 3 webinars is enough… it’s not.
They think attending a dozen events is enough… it’s not.
They think 3-months of content creation is enough… it’s not.
There is a marketing principle known as the “Rule of 7,” which says a potential customer typically needs to encounter a brand's marketing messages at least seven times before taking even the FIRST step towards a business.
Yet, many brands I work with wonder why they aren’t getting leads in a few months.
It just takes time… there is no getting around it.
This is why I love the Rule of 100. Until you’ve done something 100 times… don’t expect to see ANY results.
- 100 newsletters
- 100 YouTube videos
- 100 pieces of content
Embrace the marketing grind.
3. The Gift of Focus
Most people get caught up in the hype of the latest marketing trends.
First, they are on Instagram.
Then they are on TikTok.
And then they see TikTok is getting banned.
So then they jump to YouTube.
And then they realize how hard YouTube is.
So then they jump to LinkedIn.
The cycle continues…
And then they wonder why “their marketing efforts aren’t working.”
Hard truth… they ALL work. Yep, every damn single one of them.
- Ads
- Websites
- Networking
- Cold emails
- Social media
But only if you FOCUS.
Pick the ONE you will most likely stick to… and then go hard.
