1. The Marketing Misconception
I recently talked with a potential client about building a website for her to attract more leads.
Her response floored me: "I don't want more leads."
Wait... what?
This is like a farmer saying, "I don't want more seeds." Or a marathoner saying, "I don't want more water stations."
When you reject more leads, you reject choice, stability, and growth. You're putting your practice at the mercy of your current patient list… which can (and will) change without warning.
This mindset keeps you trapped in a cycle of feast and famine… either overwhelmed with patients or desperately searching for them.

2. My Reality Check
I’ve made this same mistake myself.
Back when I worked as an occupational therapist, I would bust my ass to fill up my schedule, but once it was full, I would fall off the marketing wagon… only to realize that in three months, I had giant gaping holes in my schedule.
The worst part? Building a steady lead flow takes time. Starting from zero when you're already in trouble is like trying to dig a well when you're already thirsty.
It wasn’t until I learned how to implement a consistent lead generation system that I understood having "too many" leads wasn't a problem… it was the solution.
It gave me the power to choose my ideal clients, raise my rates, and never worry about when clients suddenly drop off.

3. The Lead Flow Solution
Here's why you should ALWAYS want more leads, even when your schedule is packed:
- Leads = Choice: More leads mean you can select the patients who are the best fit for your expertise and who you enjoy working with most. No more accepting everyone just to fill your schedule.
- Leads = Price Freedom: When you have an abundance of interested patients, you can confidently charge what you're worth without fear of losing business.
- Leads = Security: Patient lists naturally decline over time as people move, recover, or change providers. A consistent lead flow ensures you're never caught off-guard.
- Leads = Growth Potential: Want to hire another practitioner? Expand your services? Open another location? None of this is possible without a robust lead pipeline.
- Leads = Leverage: Too many leads for your schedule? Again…not a problem… it's an opportunity to create a waitlist, add group sessions, or develop digital products to serve those you can't fit in.
The solution isn't to stop lead generation when you're full… it's to create systems for capitalizing on those "extra" leads.
Create a waitlist system, develop relationships with other practitioners for referrals, or build digital offerings for those who can't see you in person.
Most importantly, never… EVER turn off your lead generation.

Bottom Line: Leads are the lifeblood of your practice… Rejecting them is like rejecting oxygen.
